Silvia Pescina graduated in 2008 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Parma, in 2012 defended her PhD in Biopharmaceutics-Pharmacokinetics. In 2011, during the PhD, she spent some months as visiting PhD student at the Centre for Drug Research, University of Helsinki (Finland).

From 2012 to 2014 she was Postdoctoral Fellow at the Interdept. Centre Biopharmanet_TEC, University of Parma, and from 2014 to 2019, at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Parma. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the Food and Drug Department, University of Parma. From October 2019 she is Docent in Drug Delivery at University of Helsinki (Finland). Silvia Pescina is author/co-author of 33 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and of 33 conference communications.

Research activity is mostly focused on ocular drug delivery, with emphasis on development and characterization of topical dosage forms, on set-up of in vitro and ex vivo models, mainly based on porcine tissues, for studying the ophthalmic delivery of conventional and biotech compounds, and on the evaluation of chemical and physical absorption enhancers.
